ART THERAPY

Sometimes it is hard to describe our thoughts with words. Art Therapy is a way to explore your experience of yourself and your world using image making. You will be supported to create an image using your medium of choice including paint, clay, sand, pencils, charcoal, and pastels. The art making can be very therapeutic and mindful. However, seeing your thoughts and feelings in an image can be quite revealing. This allows you to see yourself and others differently and therefore gain a new perspective and find new ways to respond to your experience.

Our Art Psychotherapists are specialist trained in working with young people and adults who have experienced acute, chronic or complex trauma. We have also worked for over 20 years with children who live with an experience of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and Autism Spectrum Disorder. Art Therapy has been found to be very helpful for those who’s experience of neurodivergence creates communication challenges.

Jake's Story

"I didn’t think anyone would
ever get me properly"

10 year old Jake* was referred by his Support Coordinator for Art Therapy to work towards his goal of strengthening his social skills that had been impacted by ADHD and ASD. Jake had difficulty interacting with his friends at school and found it hard to describe his emotions with words often causing high anxiety and frustration.
