PSYCHOLOGY VS PSYCHOTHERAPY?
Psychology and Psychotherapy are the study of human behaviour and the mind. The difference between the two is the approach the practitioner's offer. Psychology is often expert focused, short term offering a diagnoses and treatment. Psychotherapy is client driven, medium to long term and offers the opportunity for the individual to deeply understand their experience of the world and find their own solutions to their challenges.
WHO CAN DO ART THERAPY?
Art making is one of the earliest forms of expression for humankind and as children our first language was art and play where we spoke, explored and sought to understand our world through image making and re-enactment. Art Therapy is therefore great for children who are still learning how to use verbal language to express themselves. However, it is perfect for adults who perhaps use their verbal language to intellectualise their experience rather than acknowledge their feelings about their experience.
MENTAL HEALTH CARE PLANS?
Mental health care plans are prescribed by GPs if you have a diagnosis of a mental health disorder. They offer a rebate of up to $80 per session and up to 10 sessions. Mental health care plans can currently only be used with Registered Psychologists or Social Workers, therefore, cannot be used for counselling or psychotherapy.
HOW MANY SESSIONS DO I NEED?
Psychotherapy is your time and your space. You drive the service. The more sessions you attend the deeper an understanding you will have of your experience, why you make the choices that lead you to where you are and how you can change your responses. Claire will support you every step of the way and guide your sessions but ultimately it is up to you.
DO YOU HAVE A CRECHE?
Wattleseed Centre WA does not have a creche and it is not recommended that your children attend your sessions. Your therapy sessions are for you to focus on your experience of your world. Responding to your child's needs competes with your ability to hear yourself so please prioritise yourself and seek alternative care for your children. We do have a range of appointments available including during school, evening and weekend times.
